It was built in the 13th century on the site of an earlier Byzantine castle. Situated in the centre of old Limassol, is a remnant from the presence of Crusaders on the island.
Castle was the site of a royal wedding in the Middle Ages between Richard the Lionheart, King of England, and Berengaria of Navarre, and now houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum.
